For its relatively small size, toothaches typically cause massive amounts of discomfort. Forest Hills-Based Dentist and Healthy Teeth Author John Dodes BBS remarks that pain is usually your body’s way of telling you to go seek professional medical help. As in the case of chronic toothache, it is usually your mouth telling you to go visit your dentist.
For minor toothaches, however, it would serve you well to know that there are a number of home remedies that could momentarily relieve dental discomfort until you are able to drop-by your dentist’s office.
Clove oil. Clove oil is an age-old home remedy that remains relevant until today. Eugenol, a chemical compound contained in clove oil has natural anesthetic and anti-bacterial properties that actively reduced dental discomfort.
To use, simply soak a piece of cotton ball in a solution made of 3 drops of clove oil and ¼ teaspoon of olive oil and once soaked, place the cotton ball in the affected area and bite down to keep it in place.
Make sure that you don’t sleep with the clove oil-soaked cotton ball still pressed between your teeth as the solution tends to burn soft periodontal tissues overtime.
Cough drop. Cough drops and lozenges are usually formulated with controlled amounts of menthol and benzocaine, which have natural anesthetic properties. As such, cough products are to provide momentary relief to dental pain. To use, simply pop a lozenge or two in your mouth and suck – don’t chew.
Flush it out. There are times when the root of dental pain is not bacterial infection, but simply loose food particles that are trapped between your teeth. It is in these cases that flossing, brushing with interdental cleaners, and rinsing with mouthwash works best to alleviate dental pain.
Much like any other dental anomaly, dental pain is often symptomatic of a more serious dental conditions. To spare yourself from more severe dental complications, it is best to seek immediate professional dental treatment from your local Dentist at Chandler Road.
